Im MAKIN CARDS!!!

Im on a mission. IM using up some of these scraps and making room and making cards like craaaaaazy. Some are cute some are well not quite so great haha I COUlDNT sleep so I stayed up makin cards. SO anyway.. here you go.. DONT LAUGH!
So I keep getting people asking me to make cards for them. I have had several ask.. but I have NO CLUE what to charge. What do you guys do? waht do you suggest? I have never charged for any of my stuff before until the last couple of years and It is always soo hard to figure out. I dont want to go to high, sometimes I just give it away instead because I just love doing them. Actually we are starting to be over run by hand crafted Items.. Im running out of places to put them. I give them as gifts all the time. BUT NOW.. I get people asking how much do you charge and my eyes just roll back Because I have NO CLUEEEE what I charge hahaa.
I know John will kill me if I did that right now with us trying to keep Bella in school and our Insurance Issues (DO NOT GET ME STARTED) SO what do you think? WHat is a fair price? GIve me some ideas.

Nancy, I was just in a similar situation. I'd say come up with a cost for supplies and multiply by 2 or 3 to cover you labor and creative efforts!

A few years ago I had someone ask me to make very simple thank you cards. I took the cost of the envelopes divided by how many were in the box, the approx. actual cost of supplies (not sale prices but actual cost) and then I doubled the price. 100% mark up! That is what most businesses do. If supplies cost me 1.00, I would charge 2.00... A gross card costs a minimum of 2.25 and your are much nicer than that!! Or you can ask them what are you willing to pay? And start from there.

I would definitely make sure you are covering costs, even if you are using scraps and stuff. The other girls would have a better idea than me. I'd compare similar handmade cards in the stores and see what they charge. Just don't undersell yourself - your time that you put into it needs to be valued too.

Oh Nancy I agree with at least doubling the cost.......
It is a hard call at best though when you are trying to figure this sort of thing out.
Maybe you could do the cards in batches.....a certain number...and charge as a set?

I agree with other girls, cover your costs then double it at least. Cards are not cheap these days and if they are especially made, well your laughing babe.

i agree w/everyone else. of course when using scraps its hard to figure, so just add everything as if you bought it whole and then your time:)

To figure price to charge on items I have made I figure my cost and charge 2.5 times my cost. I puch it back to 2 times my cost if it's a larger order, like wedding invites. Good luck Good Luck girlie!
